Punktmalerei/Dotpainting
origin of dot painting
The art of dot painting is the traditional drawing and painting technique of the Australian Aborigines. The elements of these paintings are mainly dots, but also spots, circles, lines, stripes and ornaments. Small dots of acrylic paint are lined up next to each other, point by point, until a wonderful mandala or pattern is created. Anyone can do dot painting, as no specific knowledge is required.
The roots of dot painting lie in traditional bark paintings, body painting, and rock and ground paintings.
Today, dot painting is done with acrylic paints on canvas, stones, wood, glass, porcelain or many other materials.
Painting dots - an art that fascinated me!
At the beginning I just painted different motifs or words on stones. Then I discovered these magical dots - they fascinated me from the very beginning and captivated me. Dot by dot I create beautiful and impressive works of art that beautify any home. When I concentrate on "dotting" I can forget everything around me by focusing on the essentials. That frees me! My motifs arise intuitively and can be representational or completely abstract. Sometimes there is a story - often a personal one - behind the selection and design. You can read more about this in the next section.
The Magnolia
When I moved into my apartment many years ago, I was greeted by a beautiful view of the garden. A magnolia towered over various plants and I understood why it is also called the "queen of ornamental trees". The graceful diva of spring also transforms my daily view of the patch of green into a magical garden.
This species is said to have existed since the Cretaceous period over 100 million years ago. Depending on the species, magnolias bloom in white, pink, peach, mauve or even red and can live for well over 100 years.
The magnolia stands for beauty and femininity, the Chinese Yin. Because it has survived so many challenges from nature for so long, it is also a symbol of long life, endurance and eternity. Magnolias are planted in many temple gardens in China. They are said to promote meditation, self-knowledge and inner peace. The following messages are associated with their colors: white magnolias stand for purity and perfection, pink magnolias for youth, innocence and joy, green magnolias symbolize joy, health and happiness, purple magnolias mean the fulfillment of wishes related to happiness and health.
In this mandala I tried to capture the power of this plant using chalk paints – appropriate to the time from which this flowering species originates. I used glossy and metallic paints for the accents.
When I may no longer be able to enjoy this view, this magnolia mandala (or at least a photo of it, if it changes hands) will remind me of this beautiful time and give confidence and strength to whoever decorates their home with it.

"Milk coffee to go"
Do you also like to sit somewhere and let your thoughts wander? For me, a cozy coffee is a must. Since all the cafes and restaurants were closed during the pandemic, or at least there was nowhere to sit outside and relax, I dreamed of hot latte with cream in the open air. Until the end of the lockdowns, I could only sip my coffee "to go". Here I have brought the colors to it on a small canvas.
